Harris & Menuk

Where Chemistry Meets Confidence

Equipped with advanced laboratory infrastructure, Harris & Menuk ensures accurate, reliable, and consistent results for a wide range of material analyses. Through continuous planning and investment in our state-of-the-art laboratories, we will be extending our testing capabilities to offer third-party laboratory services for the textile and yarn industries, providing dependable support for quality control, product development, and compliance requirements.

Physical Testing Lab

Our Physical Testing Lab plays a vital role in quality assessment by focusing on the macroscopic properties of textile materials. It is designed to evaluate the physical and mechanical performance of textiles across various stages of processing. Each test is conducted according to specific pass/fail criteria set by the customer, often based on retailer or brand quality manuals. A broad range of physical tests is performed, including rubbing fastness, wash fastness, perspiration fastness, light fastness, light-perspiration fastness, sublimation fastness, tearing strength, bursting strength, abrasion resistance, pilling resistance, water repellency, phenolic yellowing, GSM (gram per square meter), and vertical wicking. These tests help ensure that materials meet durability, functionality, and performance expectations in real-world use.

Wet Processing Lab

Chemical Testing

Chemical testing forms a crucial component of our quality control procedures, focusing on microscopic-level analysis of textile materials and auxiliaries. We conduct a variety of fundamental evaluations, such as determining pH, temperature stability, viscosity, solid content, moisture content, and dry content. In addition, we perform specific tests to assess pinhole formation, chelation capacity, foaming behavior, and whiteness and yellowing indices. These analyses are essential for understanding the behavior and compatibility of textile chemicals during processing.

Application Testing

Our Wet Processing Lab is equipped with a comprehensive range of lab-scale equipment for simulating and evaluating chemical processes on fabrics, yarns, and fibers. The lab includes high-temperature dyeing machines, padding mangles, mini-stenters, Gyrowash machines, spectrophotometers, lightboxes, ovens, pH meters, dye solution mixers, colorfastness testers, screen printing machines (manual and automatic), and IR dryers. This enables us to carry out testing and application trials across all stages of textile wet processing, covering pretreatment, dyeing, printing, and finishing.

We also conduct extensive fastness testing to assess how textile materials withstand different conditions, including washing, water exposure, perspiration, light, sublimation, rubbing, molding, chlorinated water, seawater, storage yellowing, dye migration, and dry cleaning. These evaluations are critical for ensuring compliance with customer requirements and industry standards.
